About Dumortierite: Dumortierite quartz is a very rarer variety of the quartz. It is a fibrous variably colored aluminium boro-silicate mineral. It crystallizes in the orthorhombic system typically forming slender prismatic crystals. The crystals are vitreous and vary in color from blue, brown and green to very rare violet and pink. It has a Mohs hardness of 7.
Although quartz can occur in a wide range of colors, blue colored quartz is surprisingly quite rare. The traces of dumortierite are responsible for its distinct color, which can range from light to dark blue and in some cases reddish-brown.
