OPAL: The name Opal is derived from the Latin opalus and the Sanskrit upala, meaning ‘precious stone.' There are many different types of Opals that can be found around the world. Australia produces 97% of the worlds opal, but deposits of opal have been found in Brazil, Ethiopia, Mexico, Peru and the USA. Their crystal structure is unlike anything else in nature, millions of tiny spheres closely packed together in an amorphous mass. Their colors and finish are so eccentric that we had to invent new words and phrases for them – opalescent, iridescent, play-of-color, opaline and many more.

You maybe familiar with names such as Ethiopian Welo Opal, Australian opal, Black Opal, Prewcious Opal, Boulder Opal and then the less precious kinds of Opals such as the beautiful stone, Pink Opal from Peru.

Opal is known as one of the most powerful healing stones, along with being known as the stone of Hope and Luck. For faithful lovers, this is the stone of Love. For unfaithful lovers, this stone will bring misfortune.

In the metaphysical world, Opal acts as a prism within the aura, bringing a full spectrum of Light energy to the system, soothing and clearing the emotional body, and boosting the will to live and the joy of one’s earthly existence. It en-kindles optimism, enthusiasm and creativity, and allows for the release of inhibitions inspiring love and passion. Opal enhances cosmic consciousness and stimulates flashes of intuition and insight, yet is a protective stone for deep inner work, meditations, and lower world shamanic journeys. Opals inspire creativity, inventiveness, spontaneity and self-expression. The fine energetic vibration of Opal enhances cosmic consciousness, and facilitates psychic and mystical visions. Opal’s vibratory light creates energetic pulses that move through the aura in much the same way wind currents create the tides with water – rising and falling in waves. Opal is a reflective stone, as it picks up thoughts and feelings, amplifies them and returns them to source. Opal is a karmic stone, teaching what you put out comes back.

Opal is a protective stone, when properly programmed it may make one energetically unnoticeable or invisible. Opal may be used when venturing into dangerous places and in shamanic work where stealth is required. Opal amplifies traits, brings characteristics to the surface for transformation, enhancing one’s self worth and full potential. Opal is associated with love and passion, desires and eroticism.  Opal is a seductive stone that intensifies emotional states and releases inhibitions. Opal affects the rise and fall of the energy behind emotions. Opal shows what your emotional state has been in the past and other lives and teaches you to take responsibility for your emotional being and encourages positive behavior. Wearing Opal is said to bring loyalty, spontaneity, encourage actions that arise from your heart space, and strengthen your power of thought.

In medieval Europe, opals were known as ‘Eye stones’, such were their believed efficacy in treating the eyes. Wearing or keeping an opal meant you were resistant to all diseases of the eye and a soothing eye-wash of opal elixir was supposed to do wonders for sore eyes.
